Air Quality Planning Section
within the Air Division analyzes air quality data of criteria ambient air pollutants and develops strategies needed to attain air quality standards.
Current Status and Activities
Mississippi has been fortunate to be in attainment with all federal ambient air quality standards until recent changes to the ozone standard and most areas of the state continue to be in attainment with the new standards.
Emission control strategies for mobile, point, and area sources are being analyzed for effectiveness in attaining and maintaining compliance with ambient air quality standards.
Mississippi is participating with ten other southeastern states to improve visibility in national parks and wildlife protection areas. This group of states is known as Visibility Improvement State and Tribal Association of the Southeast
(VISTAS).
