Class description
This one day workshop includes instruction on a wide variety of wastewater related safety issues. topics to be covered include Water-borne Diseases, Confined Spaces, Trenching, Chlorine Handling, Laboratory and General safety concerns.
Wastewater Facilities Management
Class description
This one day workshop will focus on the various aspects of management of wastewater treatment systems. Included in the discussion will be: General Management Practices, Personnel, Training, Planning, and Public Relations. Special emphasis will be given to Financial Management and Emergency Preparedness. Please bring a calculator as exercises may require calculations.
Biological Treatment
Class description
This two day workshop will focus on the design and operation of all types of biological treatment systems including: Lagoons, Trickling Filters, and Activated Sludge facilities. Identification of problem conditions and corrective actions will be stressed. Hands-on problem solving case studies will be included. Attendees are requested to bring a calculator and a MS Wastewater Facilities Operations / Training Manual for reference.

This one day workshop covers design, operation and maintenance of all types of lagoon systems. Included are: Facultative (Conventional), Aerated and Anaerobic lagoons. We will also discuss wetlands, overland flow, irrigation and sand filters as methods of upgrading lagoon systems.

Laboratory Procedures
Class description
This two day workshop is presented by the laboratory personnel at MDEQ. Instruction is provided in proper analytical procedures for common NPDES permit parameters including: BOD, TSS, Fecal Coliform, Chlorine Residual, pH, and Ammonia Nitrogen. Hands on instruction is included. This workshop has a limitation of 20-25 persons. We request that only persons working in a laboratory and conducting analysis attend this workshop.

This one day workshop is presented by the environmental trainers and laboratory personnel at MDEQ. Instruction is provided in proper analytical procedures for common field and operational parameters including: Chlorine Residual, pH, and Dissolved Oxygen. Hands on instruction is included. Effluent monitoring analysis will be briefly discussed to introduce the operator to these laboratory procedures.

In this one day workshop we will discuss the most common aspects of biological stabilization, dewatering and disposal of wastewater biosolids. The 40 CFR 503 regulations will be emphasized as they apply to land application and surface disposal, including monitoring, sampling and calculation procedures.
Wastewater Systems Security
Class description
This one day workshop is presented through a grant from EPA for small municipal system security. The workshop will focus on performing hazard and vulnerability assessments on small wastewater systems using the VSAT and NETC assessment tools. Natural and manmade emergencies/disasters will be discussed. As a follow-up, the training staff will offer on-site assistance in completing vulnerability assessments at selected small municipal facilities.
