Recycling and Solid Waste Education Workshop
The Recycling and Solid Waste Reduction Program offers educational workshops for educators and community leaders.
These educational workshops are designed for all educators and incorporate numerous activities that can be used in the classroom. These activity based workshops incorporate source reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, vermi-composting, incineration, solid waste landfills, illegal dumping, household hazardous waste, and litter prevention.
Educators that participate in the workshops receive the following:
- 2.5 CEU's
- Free environmental education materials and resources
- Thee days (25 hours) of hands-on activities (K-12)
- Tours of recycling and solid waste facilities
These workshops are $50.00 per participant which includes lunch, field trips, and resource materials.

Waste In Place
Waste In Place is a 6 hour workshop conducted by Keep Mississippi Beautiful for educators working with grades K-6. This workshop builds critical thinking, processing, and problem solving skills through 33 imaginative, hands-on lessons. Lessons can be taught individually or in sequence to introduce students to litter and integrated solid waste management.
Developed and field-tested by professional educators and waste experts, the curricula is being used nationwide by thousands of teachers to influence positive behavior, foster social responsibility and respect for the environment, and enrich the learning experience.
