MDEQ Lifts One Water Contact Advisory and Issues Three
One Other Advisory in Effect

(JACKSON, Miss.)The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted the water contact advisory Thursday for sampling station 12B (Biloxi East Central Beach). Advisories were issued for stations 7, 8, and 10, and one remains in effect for station 11A.

The advisory is lifted for:

Station 12B -- Biloxi East Central Beach -- from St. Peter St. east to Dukate St.

Advisories are issued for:

Station 7 -- Pass Christian East Beach -- from Espy Ave. east to Hayden Ave.

Station 8 -- Gulfport West Beach -- from Marie Ave. east to Camp Ave.

Station 10 – Gulfport Central Beach -- from Alfonso Dr. east to Arkansas Ave.

An advisory is still in effect for:

Station 11A -- Edgewater Beach -- near Eisenhower Drive, Biloxi -- from Debuys Rd. east to Edgewater Ave.

These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas.

When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
