A brownfield is defined as, under certain legal exclusions and additions, real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.

In an effort to assist communities in Mississippi looking to apply for US EPA Brownfield Assessment and Cleanup grants for the upcoming cycle, MDEQ has requested the top Assessment and Cleanup grants from across the country during this past grant cycle. By reviewing the formatting and content of these grants, MDEQ hopes they can serve as examples for future applicants. Please refer to the most recent guidelines for submissions issued by US EPA for any specific changes or modifications from the 2016 grant cycle.
