The Air Division is responsible for ensuring that air quality within Mississippi is protective of public health and welfare. The division is charged with controlling, preventing, and abating air pollution to achieve compliance with air emission regulations pursuant to the Mississippi Air and Water Pollution Control Act, applicable regulations promulgated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Federal Clean Air Act.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING regarding the Title V Permit Fee for September 1, 2017 through August 31, 2018.

Pursuant to Miss. Code Ann. Sec. 49-17-30, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality will hold a public hearing to receive comments regarding the proposed Title V Permit fee for September 1, 2017 through August 31, 2018 to be established by Commission Order. The public hearing will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. in Room 104A at the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, 515 E. Amite St., Jackson, Mississippi. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on November 10, 2016,
the Mississippi Commission on Environmental Quality (Commission)
voted to amend state air pollution control regulations Title 11 Mississippi Administrative Code,
Part 2, Chapter 1, “Air Emission Regulations for the Prevention, Abatement,
and Control of Air Contaminants” and to adopt a Revision to
the State Implementation Plan for the Control of Air Pollution.
The action is reflected in Commission Order 6702-16.
The regulation amendments are applicable statewide.

Air Emissions Standards
MDEQ’s Air Division develops and maintains state specific air emissions standards for Mississippi. Additionally, EPA’s Federal Standards, such as New Source Performance Standards and National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, are adopted by reference.

Ambient Air Quality
MDEQ’s Air Division develops, implements, and maintains ambient air quality standards based on standards set by EPA. A monitoring program is in place to evaluate the State’s compliance status with the standards and to provide daily air quality forecast information to the public.

MDEQ safeguards communities from the dangers associated with asbestos through its implementation of regulations affecting building demolition and renovation operations and also through the accreditation and certification of training providers and individuals who engage in asbestos abatement activity.

Diesel Emission Reduction Grant Program
The Mississippi Diesel Emissions Reduction Grant Program is a funding opportunity to implement cost-effective and innovative projects to reduce diesel emissions in our state.

Emissions Inventories
MDEQ's Air Division maintains an inventory of air emissions for air quality analysis, modeling and planning purposes.

Lead-Based Paint
MDEQ's program that regulates environmental hazards from lead-based paint.
The Air Division regularly presents information and materials to various groups throughout the state to increase awareness of what each one of us can do to protect and enhance the air quality in our state.

Title V Fees
The Air Division currently handles administrative procedures for establishing the annual Title V fee and the annual emissions reporting for fee assessment.
