MISSISSIPPI RECYCLING BIN GRANT PROGRAM
(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) is accepting applications for a Recycling Bin Grant Program that will offer free recycling bins for schools, colleges and universities and public and non-profit office buildings. The program is sponsored by the Southeast Recycling Development Council, the Alcoa Recycling Company, the Mississippi Recycling Coalition, and MDEQ. The deadline for applying is July 30, and the grant recipients will be announced on August 20.
The bins are designed to increase the collection of aluminum plastic and glass containers and various paper products for recycling from elementary and secondary schools, community colleges and institutions of higher learning, state government agencies, local government and non-profit community organizations. It is likely there will be another round of recycling bin grants this fall.
MDEQ is the applicant reviewer and the distributor of the recycling bins on behalf of the other organizations. The applications will be reviewed and evaluated based on the potential to collect the most recyclable material. Completed applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2010.
