MDEQ ANNOUNCES GRANTS FOR RECYCLING BINS
Grants sponsored by the Alcoa Recycling Company, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, the Mississippi Recycling Coalition and the Southeast Recycling Development Council

(JACKSON, Miss.) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) announced today that they are accepting grant applications for free 22-gallon plastic recycling bins. Grant applicants can be schools, colleges, universities, and public and non-profit office buildings. The bins are designed to increase the collection of recyclables including various paper products as well as aluminum, plastic and glass containers. MDEQ along with the Alcoa Recycling Company, the Mississippi Recycling Coalition, and the Southeast Recycling Development Council are partners in this effort.

MDEQ will serve as the applicant reviewer and the distributor of the recycling bins. Written requests for the bins must be received by 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2011. All requests received by that date will be reviewed and evaluated based on the potential to collect the most recyclable material.

Information on the criteria for grant applications and submittal information can be found at www.deq.state.ms.us/solidwaste and http://www.deq.state.ms.us/MDEQ.nsf/pdf/SW_MississippiRecyclingBinGrantProgram/$File/MS_Recycling_Bin_Grant_2011.pdf?OpenElement.
