MDEQ LIFTS WATER CONTACT ADVISORY IN HARRISON COUNTY
(JACKSON, Miss.) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted a water contact advisory previously issued May 8 for the following station:
●Station 10A -- Courthouse Road Beach in Gulfport – from the old VA main entrance east to Courthouse Road.
Water samples show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels. The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, notifies the agency when an area returns to acceptable levels and safe conditions.
●A beach closure issued April 25 for Station 4 in Hancock County (extends from the box culvert east to Ballantine Street) is still in effect. The closure was issued due beach re-nourishment activities.
Information on the Mississippi Beach Monitoring Program is available at: http://www.usm.edu/gcrl/msbeach/index.cgi.
