MDEQ LIFTS ADVISORY FOR PORTION OF BACK BAY BILOXI
(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) Wednesday lifted a temporary water contact advisory issued on June 11 for Back Bay Biloxi north of the shipping channel from Little Island near Central Avenue west to O'Neal Point near Goodman Road.
Since June 11, MDEQ staff has sampled the water several times and have determined that bacteria concentrations have returned to background levels, and people may resume water recreation and consumption of fish and seafood caught in the area.
The advisory was prompted due to discharges from the d'Iberville Wastewater Treatment Facility.
