MDEQ ANNOUNCES RECYCLING BIN GRANT AWARDS

(JACKSON, Miss.) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) announced Thursday that recycling bin grant awards have been awarded to various organizations around the State of Mississippi. The bin grant awards are being made through a partnership involving MDEQ, the Alcoa Recycling Company, the Southeast Recycling Development Council, and the Mississippi Recycling Coalition.

The current bin grant awards involve corrugated recycling bins that are designed to increase the collection of aluminum, plastic and glass containers for recycling from elementary and secondary schools, community colleges and institutions of higher learning, and state government agencies, local governments, and non-profit community groups and organizations.

“We are encouraged to see the increased participation in recycling activities across the state. These recycling bins will be a crucial step in assisting many organizations in their recycling efforts,” said Trudy Fisher, MDEQ Executive Director.

The recipients receiving bin grant awards include the following organizations:

MDEQ has served as the applicant reviewer and the distributor of the recycling bins on behalf of the partnership. Grant requests were submitted at the end of July and notices of awards were made in August to the recycling bin recipients. It is anticipated that the partnership will make additional recycling bin grants available this fall.
