MDEQ LIFTS BEACH ADVISORIES
(JACKSON, Miss.) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality
(MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted advisories
previously issued for the following stations:
Hancock County
Station 3 - near Vacation Lane in Waveland;
Station 4 - near St. Charles Street in Bay St. Louis.
Harrison County
Station 5 - near Lady Mary Avenue in Pass Christian;
Station 6 - near Church Avenue in Pass Christian;
Station 9 - near Pratt Avenue in Gulfport;
Station 10 - near US Naval Home site near Oak Avenue in Gulfport;
Station 11 - near Cowan/Lorraine Road in Gulfport;
Station 12A - near Rodenberg Avenue in Biloxi;
Station 12B - near Porter Avenue in Biloxi;
Station 13A - near Holley Street in Biloxi.
Jackson County
Station 14 - Front Beach near Martin Avenue in Ocean Springs;
Station 15 - near Holcomb Boulevard in Ocean Springs;
Station 17 - St. Andrews Beach near Main Street in Ocean Springs;
Station 19 - Pascagoula Beach West near Oliver Street in Pascagoula.
The following stations’ advisories were lifted on December 29:
Station 7A in Long Beach near Trautman Avenue;
Station 8 - near Fournier Avenue in Gulfport.
The remaining station under an advisory issued December 12:
Station 10A - near Courthouse Road in Gulfport.
Water samples show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels.
Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing
recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a
significant rainfall event.
The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the
Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, notifies the agency when an area
returns to acceptable levels and safe conditions. Information on the
