MDEQ LIFTS BACTERIA BEACH ADVISORY
ADVISORY WAS NOT RELATED TO GULF OIL SPILL

(JACKSON, Miss.) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted a bacteria advisory previously issued June 25 for the following station. This advisory was not related to the Gulf oil spill.

● Station 9 in Gulfport – near Pratt Avenue (from 20th Avenue eastward to Thornton Avenue).

Water samples show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels. The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, notifies the agency when an area returns to acceptable levels and safe conditions.
