MDEQ ISSUES BEACH CLOSURE FOR ONE LOCATION

(JACKSON, Miss.) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a precautionary beach closure today for one sampling station in Harrison County. The City of Biloxi reported to MDEQ that a pump station was inactive and that sewage entered the beach area at Station 12A. The city is operating a bypass pump to eliminate the overflow and are working on permanent repairs. It’s possible the pump station was damaged by lightning during last night’s storms.

The area of the closure:

Station 12A - Biloxi West Central Beach -- near Rodenburg Avenue. The extent is from Travia Street east to Iberville Drive.
