MDEQ LIFTS WATER CONTACT ADVISORY FOR RICHLAND CREEK AND PEARL RIVER

(JACKSON, Miss.) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) Thursday lifted the temporary water contact advisories issued August 31 and September 2, for Richland Creek and the Pearl River downstream to Rosemary Road. The sampling results for fecal coliform bacteria done by MDEQ staff are below levels of concern.

The West Rankin Utility Authority’s sewer bypass is still in effect and the repair work in progress is not likely to produce another discharge into Richland Creek and the Pearl River.
