MDEQ LIFTS PEARL RIVER ADVISORY
(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) today lifted an advisory for a section of the Pearl River in Pearl River County. The section extended from Highway 26 near Poplarville south to I-59 near Nicholson. MDEQ issued a water contact and a fish consumption advisory on August 14 due to a massive fish kill on the Pearl River near Bogalusa, Louisiana.
Analysis by MDEQ scientists of sampling done by MDEQ, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals indicates the area is safe for water contact recreation like swimming or wading and for consumption of fish and shellfish.
