HARRISON COUNTY BEACH ADVISORIES LIFTED
(JACKSON, Miss.) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality
(MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted advisories
previously issued for two stations in Harrison County. The following
locations are no longer under advisory:
● Station 7A - in Long Beach near Trautman Avenue;
● Station 8 - near Fournier Avenue in Gulfport.
The other stations still under advisories are listed at:
http://www.usm.edu/gcrl/msbeach/index.cgi.
Water samples show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels.
Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing
recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a
significant rainfall event.
The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the
Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, notifies the agency when an area
returns to acceptable levels and safe conditions.
