MDEQ Issues Temporary Advisory For Hopson Bayou in Tallahatchie County

(JACKSON, Miss.) –The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a temporary water contact advisory Wednesday for Hopson Bayou and tributaries near Tutwiler in Tallahatchie County. The advisory for Hopson Bayou extends from Highway 49 to Thornton Road. The advisory was issued due to a ruptured sewer line that released untreated wastewater into the bayou.

MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact recreation such as swimming or wading in these waters. In addition, people should avoid eating fish from these waters until further notice.

MDEQ will monitor bacteria levels and water quality in the creek and will revise the advisory as needed.
