MDEQ ANNOUNCES RECYCLING GRANTS FUNDING FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) announced Tuesday the availability of grants for cities and counties for recycling and materials conservation projects.  Eligible projects include funding for recycling equipment and supplies, educational programs, and promoting the purchase of products with recycled content.  Eligible local governments may submit grant proposals for a potential funding award of up to $100,000.

These funds are available through funding to MDEQ under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program from the U.S. Department of Energy.  MDEQ will make the grants available to eligible municipalities and counties not already funded directly by the U.S. Department of Energy.  The deadline to submit an application is 3:00 pm, Friday, August 13, 2010.

More information is available at:
http://www.deq.state.ms.us/solidwaste

Interested local governments may also acquire the information by faxing a request to (601) 961-5785 to the attention of Luis Murillo or Denise Wilson, or by emailing them at Luis_Murillo@deq.state.ms.us or Denise_Wilson@deq.state.ms.us.  Please reference FOA No. MDEQ-08132010 in the correspondence.  A list of cities and counties that received direct DOE funding can be found as Attachment A in the FOA Specifications.

This program is funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
